YuKyung Technologies held a press conference to launch its Atom-based MID ‘viliv S5′ in the market of South Korea.

LG announces wearable 3G touch phone

LG Electronics announced it will unveil a wearable ‘3G Touch Watch Phone’ (model: LG-GD910) at the upcoming CES 2009 held in Las Vegas.

Boasting a thickness of 13.9mm, the 3G Touch Watch Phone delivers functions of a cell phone on a small size device like a watch. In particular, it supports 3G HSDPA at speeds to 7.2Mbps as well as video telephony with a built-in camera.

Casio unveils 830CA camera phone in Japan

Casio unveiled its 5.2M camera phone, model 830CA, featuring face detection and auto-focus functions, which will be available in Japan at the end of November via SoftBank.

The handset incorporates a 3″ display with 240×427 resolution, supports HSDPA, 1-Seg and a global roaming service. Color options include white, black, orange and gray. The unit measures 50×106.1×15mm and weighs 111g.

LG Electronics picks Ericsson for HSPA modules

Ericsson announced today that it has been selected by LG Electronics to provide mobile broadband modules based on high speed packet access (HSPA). LG Electronics notebooks and netbooks will include the modules starting in Q3 2008.

Ericsson developed its own HSPA chipset technology, based on a collection of mobile telephony protocols that extend and improve the performance of existing UMTS protocols. Two standards, HSDPA and HSUPA, have been established by ETSI and a further standard, HSPA+, is soon to be released.

Multi-Tech targets M2M applications with HSDPA embedded modem

207 HSDPA networks in 89 countries, says GSA

More than 200 HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) systems worldwide have launched commercial mobile broadband services, according to the latest research published today by GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association.

The GSA survey: “HSPA Operator Commitments” confirms 207 HSDPA networks have launched in 89 countries. This compares with 126 commercial HSDPA networks in 63 countries reported by GSA 12 months previously.

LG launches HB620T DVB-T phone in Germany

LG Electronics announced the launch of the first DVB-T phone in Germany, model HB620T. DVB-T stands for terrestrial digital video broadcast. DVB-T services are expected to provide mobile TV at no additional cost for programming. An existing service in some European countries, DVB-H or handheld digital video broadcast, is a paid mobile TV service in markets such as Finland, Italy, and the Netherlands.

The HB620T is a folding handset designed around a 2″ screen. The handset features: 7.2 Mbps HSDPA downloading, a full Internet browsing experience, an MP3 player and Bluetooth connectivity. LG also incorporates a noise-deadening processor called Mobile XD Engine to improves signal clarity.
