LG Tunes CES 2008 Audience into MPH Mobile TV Solution

LG Electronics, co-developer of the MPH in-band mobile digital television (DTV) system, previewed a series of products that will support local TV stations’ plans to launch DTV broadcasts for mobile devices in 2009.

At CES 2008, LG Electronics is demonstrating products that incorporate new circuitry for receiving the robust ATSC-compatible MPH (Mobile-Pedestrian-Handheld) signals. Developed by LG Electronics, its U.S. R&D subsidiary Zenith and Harris Corporation, MPH is capable of providing robust over-the-air DTV signals to mobile, pedestrian and handheld devices.

LG Demonstrates Dual-Mode GSM/WiMAX Handset at CES 2008

Ziff-Davis Media’s GearLog snapped a photo from the CES show floor of a handset that supposedly is LG’s entry into the Mobile WiMAX game with Sprint Nextel.

Last August, Sprint Nextel said that LG was working on consumer electronics devices for the Xohm service, but held back any specifics on models, specifications, and timing.

Skype Broadens Mobile Device Support at CES

Skype announced the support for a wide variety of new wireless devices and accessories at CES 2008. By doing so, it is delivering a new mobile Skype experience for consumers and small business users wherever they are.

Samsung Introduces SGH-i450, SGH-G800, SGH-i620, and SGH-i780 HSDPA Handsets

Samsung Electronics showed off several of its new handsets at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show. These handsets are making their US debut at the show, all featuring HSDPA (3.6 Mbps) connectivity.

The Samsung SGH-i450 is a music phone that offers a dual slider design and touch wheel music navigation. When the i450 slides up, the mobile phone supports powerful smartphone features with Symbian S60 OS. Running the Symbian S60 3rd Edition operating system, the i450 provides advanced download application and multitasking features in fast speed through HSDPA connectivity. When it slides down, the phone activates as a music player with touch wheel navigation which enables the users to control the multimedia menus easily. Drive an F1 Simulator over WiMAX at Intel’s CES Venue

Intel blogger Marc Wallis dropped some early photos of the Intel WiMAX demonstration at CES in Las Vegas.

In the main Intel booth in Central hall, there are two BMW F1 simulator cars that visitors will sit in to drive a small remote control race car around a track. Sounds simple, until you find out that the race track is actually across the street from the convention center at the BMW Sauber F1 Pit Lane Park. The control signal for these little cars will be carried over a WiMAX network. The drivers (in the central hall) will see where their little cars are going (in Pit Lane Park across the street) with video streamed back over the WiMAX network.

dmedia Takes CES Innovations 2008 Award for F200 WiMAX Personal Navigation Device

Taiwan’s dmedia added another award to its trophy case when CES honored it with an Innovations 2008 Award for its F200 wireless handset. The F200 combines WiMAX, location-based services, and GPS navigation on a dual-screen phone. dmedia has won Best of Innovation Awards at CES two years in a row.

The F200 is a GPS phone with dual screen, single touch panel, GPS chipset built-in, Bluetooth enabled, 2.0 Mega-pixel digital camera, Mobile WiMAX supported, and incorporates a G-Sensor. The G-Sensor enables a step counter (pedometer function). The dimensions of the handset are: 124 x 46.9 x 15.9 (mm).

Motorola Showcases DH01 DVB-H Mobile TV Solution at CES 2008

Motorola expects to showcase its new Mobile TV DVB-H compatible DH01 device and mobile TV broadcast solutions portfolio at the upcoming CES 2008 in Las Vegas, USA. The DH01 is a pocket sized personal media player featuring 4.3-inch screen that supports up to 16 million colors. It also includes a five-minute memory buffer for pause during live TV viewing.
