Parade of WiMAX laptops for U.S. begins

Acer

Acer Inspire 4930

The 14-inch multimedia laptop runs on the Intel Core 2 Duo T7350 and has 3GB of memory along with a 250GB hard drive. It carries a list price of US$899.

Acer Aspire 6930

Equipped with a 16-inch screen plus a 16×9 aspect ratio, the Aspire 6930 runs on the Intel Core 2 Duo T7350, holds 3GB of memory and uses a 320GB hard disk drive.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Asus F8Va-C2WM

The F8Va includes the company’s Infusion technology, which protects against scratches from daily use. Under the US$1,599 hood is the Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor, up to 4GB of memory and a 320GB hard drive.

Asus N50Vn

The US$1,399 media center laptop incorporates Blu-ray technology. Powered by the Intel Centrino 2 P8400 processor, it has 4GB of memory, a 250GB hard drive and is visually powered by NVIDIA’s 9600M graphics subsystem.

Asus M50Vm

While the performance specifications for the $1,399 M50Vm are basically the same as the N50Vn, it includes a built-in hybrid TV Tuner feature for wireless digital TV broadcasting and recording along with Blu-ray support.

Dell

Latitude “E” series

Texas-based Dell launched the Latitude “E” series laptops in August and claims they are WiMAX-enabled. Specific upgrade plans and purchase of the WiMAX module have yet to be announced.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y530

The 6-pound IdeaPad Y530 centers on its 15.4" 1280×800 screen. Powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 at 2.0 GHz, it sports 4GB of RAM, a 320GB HDD, DVD burner and a built-in webcam.

Lenovo ThinkPad X301

With its thin design (0.73") and 13.3” WXGA+ display, the ThinkPad X301 is based on Intel’s Core 2 Duo ULV SU9400 at 1.4 GHz. The machine supports up to 4GB of RAM.

Lenovo ThinkPad T400

Running an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.80GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6MB Cache) processor and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, the T400 has a retail price of $2,189. ATI graphics, a 14” WXGA+ screen and 160 GB hard drive round out the core features.

Lenovo ThinkPad SL300

The budget business SL300 has a 13.3” screen and is powered by a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (1066MHz FSB, 3MB Cache). Configurable up to 4GB RAM and a 250 GB hard disk drive, the SL300 clocks in with a US$700 list price.

Lenovo ThinkPad SL500

A 15.4” notebook based on Intel’s Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform, the ThinkPad SL500 comes with the Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics or the NVIDIA GeForce 9300M 256 MB dedicated video card, up to 4 GB of DDR2 RAM and up to 320 GB of hard drive space. The SL500 has integrated web camera and fingerprint reader options, four USB ports, a PC Card slot supporting ExpressCard34 via adapter, Secure Digital card slot, Firewire port, and VGA and HDMI outputs.

Lenovo ThinkPad W500

ThinkPad W500 uses a Core 2 Duo processor, ATI’s FireGL 512MB dedicated video card, up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory and up to 320 GB of hard drive space. The US$1,629 model includes a 15.4” widescreen display.

Lenovo ThinkPad W700

The 17” screen and built-in Wacom digitizer tablet make the W700 unlike any other Lenovo model. With prices starting at US$3,000, the W700 includes a 3.0 GHz Core 2 Extreme quad core processor, up to 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 1 GB NVIDIA graphics and dual HDD Bays. Display outputs include Dual-Link DVI, VGA and Display Port. The computer also has a full number keypad, multi-card format reader and five USB ports.

Available for US$800~$1,000, the SL400 is targeted at the small business user. It uses a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor, NVIDIA graphics, carries a 14.1" WXGA display, up to 4 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive.

Lenovo ThinkPad X200

The company’s X200 uses an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 at 2.40 GHz and integrated Intel graphics chipset. The 12.1” widescreen provides up to 1280×800 resolution. Up to 4 GB of RAM is configurable and hard disk capacity is 160 GB.

Satellite U405-ST550W

Toshiba has unveiled it Satellite U405-ST550W laptop with support for mobile WiMAX. The computer includes 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and a 13.3-inch screen.
