Freescale Takes LTE Speeds to 182 Mbps

Since publicly displaying the first end-to-end LTE (Long Term Evolution) demonstration at Mobile World Congress in early February, Freescale has continued to increase the uplink and downlink of streaming high definition video at high data rates. Freescale has enhanced its LTE data rates to 182 Mbps downlink and 86 Mbps uplink in the same demonstration – much higher than industry specifications.

LTE is engineered to provide high-speed, low-latency data that can unlock the power of high bandwidth applications in a mobile environment. According to most analysts, LTE-enabled consumer devices are at least one year away, yet Freescale is already achieving impressive data rates for mobile devices and plans to go higher as the standard matures.

These leading data rates are the result of a new device architecture created specifically to capitalize on LTE. This Freescale technology enables very high data rates at very low clock speeds and low power consumption. This capability is driven by Freescale’s custom processors utilizing a micro-coded engine for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to handle the enormous instructions-per-second load required to process high-speed data.
