MiTAC International Tops New Asia-Pacific PND Vendor Matrix Ranking from ABI Research
March 31, 2008 by Jeff Orr
MiTAC International has been ranked at the top of the latest Vendor Matrix released by ABI Research, which covers Personal Navigation Devices in the Asia-Pacific market.
Clarion and Alpine Electronics claimed the second and third spots in the company’s new evaluation of Asia-Pacific PND vendors.
The Vendor Matrix is an analytical tool developed by ABI Research to provide a clear understanding of vendors’ positions in specific markets.
Research analyst Wang Tao comments, “Navigation devices are incorporating an ever-wider range of technologies, including Internet connectivity, driver assistance, and voice control functions. These help vendors differentiate their products from those of their competitors.â€
Vendors are assessed by ABI Research on the important parameters of “innovation†and “implementation†across several criteria unique to each vendor matrix, such as customer wins, contract awards, global reach, market share, patents, R&D spending, time to market, and first movers, among others.
For this particular matrix, under “innovation,” ABI Research examined traffic awareness, support for multiple media, voice control, two-way Internet connectivity, driver assistance functionality, Bluetooth support, interactivity, and differentiation features.
Under “implementation,” ABI Research scrutinized the following criteria: companies’ distribution channels, on-board storage, branding, POIs, form factor, and dead reckoning capabilities.
