DigiTimes shared pricing for Intel’s upcoming Echo Peak WiMAX/Wi-Fi modules with volume shipments of the wireless modules for Montevina-based notebooks expected to begin shipments during the second and third quarters of this year.
According to Intel data collected by DigiTimes, the Echo Peak wireless module that supports both WiMAX and 802.11n technologies will be available in prices ranging from US$43-54, depending on specifications.
Montevina-based products are expected to account for over 50% of Intel’s shipments of notebook platforms by the fourth quarter of 2008. Taiwan-based network-equipment makers, including Asustek Computer, Gemtek Technology and Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), are the likely manufacturing partners for the Echo Peak modules, although none of the makers have yet to confirm production. However, Gemtek stated previously that it will begin the production of WiMAX/Wi-Fi dual-mode modules in the second half of 2008.
